How to Choose Your Wedding Hairstyle

Finding a good wedding hairstyle is absolutely crucial to your look on your wedding day.  Your hair really should be your crowning glory.  So we asked award-winning bridal hairstylist Inanch Emir for her advice to brides and here’s what she had to say about wedding hairstyling.      “It’s important to consider the shape of your face first to see what styles will complement your looks.  Your chosen hairstyle should accentuate your best features, drawing attention away from less pleasing attributes.  A good bridal hairstylist should instinctively know what sort of look would suit you.  Even so, it’s a good idea to go into the salon armed with some knowledge of your own so that you can communicate your desired result.”

“Here are my tips on styles to suit particular face shapes. Have a look in the mirror and see which you are.”

Round Face

  • Go for a Hair Up style with lots of volume on top and flat sides to lengthen the face.
  • Avoid chin length hair with a rounded cut line as this will mirror and highlight your already round face.
  • Also, steer clear of a short, blunt fringe.

 Oval Face

  • Any bridal hairstyle is suitable if well created.
  • Try various styles and choose the one you feel most comfortable, working with your hair texture.
  • Make sure the style complements your wedding dress.
  • Avoid wearing your hair so it covers too much of your face.  This loses your face shape and could add ‘weight’ to your features.

 Square Face

  • You could go for a feathered style, soft around the ears.
  • There should be some roundness to the shape.
  • I would leave hair down with some big waves, along with a simple flower or tiara.
  • Avoid overly short or long styles which will accentuate your jaw bone.

 Heart Shaped Face

  • Go for a look that creates volume around the bottom of your face to counter balance the heart shape.
  • Hair should be worn down with plenty of volume around the bottom, not too high on top.
  • Avoid short, full styles that highlight the upper face.

 Long

  • Go for a shorter style so hair appears thicker, making your face look wider.
  • Avoid anything too long as this will only lengthen your face further.

Great info! Man, maybe I’m in outer space, but the thought of wedding hairstyles never occurred to me, agh! (lol) In any case, great article! I’m an ‘oval face’ :D
